What we do in our Saturday morning gathering and how we treat our guests |
Questions and concerns are OK!
All of us are generally uncomfortable going into any meeting that is new to us. It may be a job interview, new school, church or club. Part of this concern is whether or not you will be accepted or put down. Will you be helped or hurt? Will you understand the language or terms? Will you have to do something you don't want to do? Will you know what you need to do or where you need to go when you get to the building? You may know you need "more of God" in your life and feel you need to find out more about "church" but are having trouble taking that first step. You may be lonely or have some major problems in your life. All of these concerns and questions are legitimate. We want to help. Some of your concerns may be answered on this web site. Feel free to e-mail Pastor Morgan or call the church phone (438-5720), leave a message and get other questions resolved. You need a place to belong! Where do I go? When you come to our facilities you will see the sign out at the road with "Church of God (Seventh Day)". You need to park back behind the buildings. The larger (NEW!) building to the East is where we have Worship services and Adult Bible class. This building also contains the Nursery (back corner of main room) and primary restrooms (to your right in the lobby). Someone should be in the lobby or inside the main room to greet you and answer any questions you have. The West building is for our children, youth and young adult classes and where we have fellowship meals. Class time. Everyone goes straight to their classes and we try to start at 9:45am. There is a classroom location map on the West building glass door. This will provide class age breakdowns and teachers. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the classes (we are all still learning!) but you can also just sit back and listen if you prefer. Worship service. The 10:45am service should have a bulletin available in the lobby which will give you a guideline of the service and other information about activities. We generally have an opening song, annoucements, and an opening prayer. We follow this with praise and worship music. This is generally a blend of traditional hymns and modern choruses for everyone to participate in as much as you desire. We then enjoy sharing blessings and needs* and have a prayer focused on them. Someone provides special music for all to enjoy. After this the Pastor will provide a sermon, which is a message from the Bible directed to the congregation. God directs us through the Bible to make changes in our lives, to bring us comfort or encourage- ment, to help us become more like Jesus. If you have a Bible, bring it along. If you don't, you can borrow one from us or just listen and soak it in. We will end with a song and sometimes a dismissal prayer and then enjoy fellowship and visiting with one another. We will be finished in many cases around noon. No one wants to be embarrassed and we will try not to embarrass you. We want to get to know you but we will do this one-on-one. We won't ask guests to "stand up" or be singled out in a Worship service. We do have Welcome cards available in the lobby that will give you the opportunity to provide us your name, address, phone, etc. but this is up to you. Unless we are having a special service or special need we won't take up an offering during the 10:45am service. There are options available for members to give their offerings but we simply don't expect guests to feel they must give anything. *The back of the Welcome card provides space to fill out prayer requests. These cards with prayer requests are generally picked up during the special music before the "prayer and share" time. Our dress code is very simple-- wear something to meet the Lord of Lords and King of Kings and fellowship with His people. Some men wear suits and ties, some come casual. Some women wear dresses and some will come in pants or jeans. It comes down to what you are comfortable with, keeping modesty and neatness in mind. Services are English only (unless otherwise specificed). We welcome those that do not speak English to join us. There are generally a few people present on Sabbath that may be able to help with translation. However, are services and classes are in English only. A Hispanic/Spanish speaking service is on Sabbath afternoon. Hopefully, some of your concerns are reduced. We have beliefs and doctrine that we believe are biblically based and stand on them strongly. Yet, we remain open to new biblical understanding and recognize that everyone may not share in our views. We look forward to meeting you. May God richly bless you as your pursue Him! |
